Ekos is the easy-to-use GUI that lets you configure all the INDI configuration items.Īccording to the INDI website ( ) your AZ/EQ5 is supported via the EQMod cable. Spaceman56 - INDI is the layer of hardware drivers that act as an interface between Ekos and the physical hardware. You will need to select 'DSLR -> Canon' in Ekos' CCD selector.Įkos drives my ~2013 Nikon D7100 perfectly. If you can control your Canon via USB, using any other software at all, then Ekos will drive it. People use a RasPi to run StellarMate, which is the commercial version (near enough, I'm trying to simplify a lot here) of Kstars/Ekos. I'm going to try and answer a few questions in one post here.īrewster - you do NOT need a RasPi. T23:27:11: Serial read error: Timeout error. T23:27:06: Serial read error: Timeout error. Here’s the port error I get on my 2021 MacBook Air Don't go around in circles trying to get everything running at once.įeel free to message me and I will do my best to help you out. My advice is to get one thing running at a time. Reading through the relevant bits helped me get my gear up and running fairly quickly. There is a truckload of information there. There's a drop-down menu at the top called "Devices" that leads to a menu (also called 'Devices') that lists all the supported equipment. One very useful source of information is the INDI website. All your gear is local to your machine (ie, connected by USB). Given that your Mac will be running everything, you can ignore anything that talks about remote servers or ports. I see that you've found the Ekos wizard - it makes things easier, for sure. The v5 hand controller in 'PC Direct' mode emulates a serial port, and I assume the EQ6 USB port will be the same. You can ignore anything about serial ports and baud rates - that's for older mounts that require a serial port on the computer. I ASSUME that the USB port on your EQ6 will be the same. I have an HEQ5-Pro with a v5 SynScan hand controller and that's how I drive the mount via KStars/Ekos. Put the hand controller into 'PC direct' mode and plug a standard USB 'B' cable into it. I'll tackle this one on my own, as I suspect it's a bigger issue than a post will resolve.Įdited by brewster, 30 August 2022 - 09:41 PM.īrewster - if you have a new SynScan controller, with the USB port, you use the 'EQMod' option. I have a new Mac, and I'm trying get the drivers working that allow me to control the serial port on the SynScan. Feeling better about this now.Įdit: I think I'm beyond help from the boards on this one. ![]() I'll mess around and hope for a fortunate accident, but I feel like I am missing something.Įdit: I just found the wizard. Would I select the SynScan or EQMod Mount? And if my scope isn't listed, what then? I have a EQ6 with the SynScan hand controller. I am guessing I don't want this, so I hit the "+" symbol to make a new profile, and see the StarWatcher category. In K-Stars, when I click the observatory dome, I get the EKOS window, with a Simulator profile active. Do I need one or am I just using the local connection? I'm watching a video on using KStars and EKIS for beginners, and he leads with "I'm going to assume you have already set up your equipment and have connected it to an INDI server". You can run all the INDI server components from the command line (ie, inside a 'Terminal' session), but it's a lot easier to run it from inside KStars. ![]() Once KStars is open, select the "Observatory Dome" icon in the tool bar to open INDI. To answer your second question, INDI is part of KStars. This should tell Apple to take a hike and let you open the KStars application without bothering you again. This will bring up the "Apple cannot verify this application" dialogue again. Repeat step 1 (right-click Kstars) and select 'Open' again. If you get a "Apple cannot verify this application" dialogue, click the 'OK' button Open the Applications folder, then right-click (or hold down the 'CONTROL' key and click the mouse button) on the 'KStars' icon. Yo can try clicking the 'Open' button, and KStars should open.
